Casting a voodoo spell is associated with dark magic in popular culture. Followers of voodoo, however, frown on most forms of magic. They believe that a body that lives in harmony with the lwa (spirits) does not require magic to balance its existence. For those that do practice magic or charms, they must never practice selfish magic or spells. When ougans (priests) and mambos (medicine men) use magic, it is protective in nature.

Instructions:

1. Step 1

Consult an ougan or mambo prior to performing a voodoo ritual yourself (see Resource section below). Devotees of voodoo do not perform magical rites or spells without the guidance of a strong ougan who has taken an oath to do no harm.

2. Step 2

Choose the lwa (spirit) for the charm. A typical voodoo spell or charm protects from harm or evil. The charm may be inscribed on a person (via tattoo) or on an object that is dedicated and blessed by the ougan.

3. Step 3

Dress in red. The ougan will dress in red and sacrifice a rooster or a chicken to summon the lwa for the protective charm. Be aware that ritualistic animal sacrifice is illegal in most states unless it is part of an organized religion and recognized as such.

4. Step 4

Carve the symbol of the lwa onto the object for the charm. The ougan may also tattoo or paint the symbol on the person receiving the charm.

5. Step 5

Use herbs to cleanse the wound or tattoo (see Resources section below). The types of herbs used are often at the discretion of the ougan or mambo who should be well-versed in herb-lore. Some herbal concoctions can be purchased through designated voodoo shops for ritual purification. Certain initiation ceremonies require the ritualistic marking of members with identifying marks.

Home-made potions and charms form the basis of much old-time rural hoodoo, but there are also many successful commercial companies selling various hoodoo components to urban and rural practitioners. These are generally called spiritual supplies, and they include herbs, roots, minerals, candles, incense, oils, floor washes, sachet powders, bath crystals, and colognes. Many patent medicines, cosmetics, and household cleaning supplies have been also aimed at hoodoo practitioners and have found dual usage as conventional and spiritual remedies.

In modern fantasy, potions are often portrayed as spells in liquid form, capable of causing a variety of effects, including healing, amnesia, infatuation, transformation, invisibility, and invulnerability.Potions have also gained popularity as a standard item in computer role playing games, usually as a healing item. Good magic is a recent term used to distinguish itself in the public's mind from black magic. In black magic, spells are used completely for the spell caster's benefit at the expense of someone else. In good magic, the spells are usually to help someone else, but some can help the spell caster, although not to the point of hurting someone else.

Instructions How to Use Good Magic Spells

1.Decide what you want and write it down. Keep rewriting this desire into as few words as possible, or even make a symbol of this desire. Keep this paper or memorize it.
2.Choose a time to perform the spell. The best way to time a spell is by the phase of the moon. A waxing moon brings something to you, while a waning moon sends something away. A full moon is great for all-purpose spells. Look at an almanac to determine when the best moon phase will occur.
3.Choose your spell components or ingredients. These can be colors, candles, found objects, natural objects, crystals, spices, herbs, a photograph or figurines. These can be as simple or as complex as you wish. Usually, you pick some object to represent your desire and another to mark the beginning or the ending of the spell.
4.Write down the spell or copy it out of a spell book or a website. Feel free to change a spell as you would a cooking recipie. Write down when you are to perform the spell.
5.Select an undisturbed area where you can perform the spell--a room or a corner of a garden, for example. Some people just do the entire thing inside of their heads. Turn off the phone and make sure others leave you alone. Make sure the spell area is neat, tidy and does not have any distracting smells.
6.Gather your spell materials, your slip of paper with the desire (if needed), your book of shadows (or grimoire) if you have one and the spell instructions.
7.Take a deep breath and believe that the spell will work. Keep that feeling of certainty in your mind as you perform the spell.
8.Make some sort of offering as thanks to the universe. This could be feeding the birds, making a donation to charity or any other good deed that comes along.

Tips And Warnings

- Spells done inside of your head through imagination can often be just as powerful as actually performing the spell. It is good to get used to actually doing spells in order to make your imagination more effective. As you become more experienced in spell craft, you will no longer need to actually perform a ritual. Your wish and your belief that it will work be enough.
- Never do Love Spells to get a specific person to fall in love with you. These always backfire. It's best just to do a spell for love in general. Don't expect instant results like you see on TV shows or the movies. That does not happen. Spells are to be used in conjunction with practical activities. For example, if you do a spell to find a job, you do actually have to apply for jobs and go on interviews.

How to Practice Witchcraft Spells Instructions

Things You'll Need:

Step 1. Decide on the spell you wish to perform. This will depend on your goal or intent, whether it be to increase financial abundance, find a new job or promote good health.

Step 2. Practice responsible ethics. Accept that we cannot always change what is meant to be, nor should we try to. Likewise, life is full of lessons that are intended to be learned from. So, examine your motives carefully before resorting to using a spell to bring about change through witchcraft.

Step 3. Follow the Witch's Pyramid when performing any spell. This is a set of four pillars (or principles) that are integral to success. They are: To Know (understand the mechanism of the spell and its effects), To Will (the ability to focus on your intent), To Dare (to believe that you are worthy of receiving this blessing) and To Keep Silent (don't negate the positive flow of energy set in motion by talking or bragging about your spell).

Step 4. Prepare the area for spellwork by walking in a circle three times deosil (clockwise) while cleansing the space once with sprinkled salt, again with blessed water and the final time with the smudging of incense, such as frankincense or myrrh.

Step 5. Consecrate any tools you intend to use when casting spells, such as a wand, pendulum or an athame (a special knife used for ritual, not cutting). To do this, set up a lit candle, burning incense, a bowl of blessed water and a bowl of salt to represent the four elements. Then pass the object over the candle flame (Fire), through the incense smoke (Air), sprinkle it with the water (Water) and then the salt (Earth). Finally, recite the following: Elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth, to this tool of the magick now give birth. Blessed and consecrated in this hour, be thou (name object) of strength and power.

* Abide the Witch's Rede, which states, "An' it harm none, do as ye will."

We all feel vulnerable at times. A protection spell can empower you. Whether it is the negative energies of others or fear for your property, you are not helpless. You can build a field of energy that will keep destructive forces away. Read on to learn how to perform protection spells.

Instructions

1.Identify your fears. The kind of protection you need will influence the spell you perform. Mentally destructive forces need to be handled differently from physical threats.

2.Describe the ownership history of your home, if that's what you want to protect. Pay attention to the feelings you get when you write about previous owners. The energies they have left behind could be what's making you feel uncomfortable.

3.Meditate on the person who is causing you grief if you are performing the spell for protection against someone. Write a letter addressing that person and explaining why you feel vulnerable.

4.Buy a black and white candle. Light it in a place in your home where you feel safe. Imagine a thick field of white energy surrounding you. Call up that protective field of energy when you feel threatened.

5.Pour hot water over a 1 tsp. of basil. Let it sit for half an hour. Run a warm bath and add the basil water. Relax and envision yourself moving through life confident and brave.

6.Eat more protein like chicken, beans, cheese and tofu when feeling vulnerable to help ground you. Spicy dishes with garlic, onions, black pepper and cayenne keep negative energies away. Eat while visualizing that you are protected from threatening forces.

7.Perform a simple protection spell for your home by burning sage in a censer. Walk through every room in your house, including the attic, basement and garage, chanting words that empower you.

* When using incantations, say positive words that empower you rather than negative words against someone or something.

This is simple magic protection spell for the protection of a room, household or other physical location against negative energies or bad spirits.

How to cast it:

1.Cast a Witch's Circle. If you use a besom for this, sweep the entire area that you wish to protect.

2.Asperse (sprinkle with purified water) the area that you are protecting. Pay special attention to any doors, windows or corners.

3.Cast the sea salt around the edges of the area. You need not be heavy-handed, just a few salt crystals per foot is quite sufficient.

4.Light the incense and allow it to burn for a few moments before continuing. Many denominations of witchcraft begin chanting or prayers at this point.

5.Use the fan or feather to cense (direct smoke towards) the entire area. Work clockwise (doesil) and wave the fan through the smoke to send it outwards. As with the water, pay special attention to doors, windows and corners. Finish your chants and invoke any deities or energies whose blessing you desire upon the protected area. Finish with your normal ritual and close the circle.
