Mention is made of the high degree of congruence between the roles of clergy and therapist. The literature on professional ethics codes is reviewed for types, roles and effectiveness of current ethical systems. The work of C. S. Herrman an analytical philosopher, is examined. He developed a systematic method to bring spiritual belief and values into congruence with ethical practice. The APA's Code of Ethics is examined for standards that could be useful in a code for Wiccan clergy. Herrman's methods are used to define a template for a Wiccan value system and a code of ethics for Wiccan clergy.

SPELL TO EASE A BROKEN HEART
John Shaman

You will need the following ingredients (be sure to charge them all before you
begin):

strawberry tea (one bag)
Small wand or stick from a willow tree
sea salt
2 pink candles
a mirror
one pink drawstring bag
one quartz crystal
a copper penny
1 teaspoon dried jasmine
1 teaspoon orris-root powder
1 tsp. strawberry leaves
1 teaspoon yarrow
10 plus drops apple-blossom oil or peach oil
10 plus drops strawberry oil
a bowl made of china or crystal that is special to you

On a Friday morning or evening (the day sacred to Venus) take a bath in sea salt
in the light of a pink candle. As you dry off and dress, sip the strawberry tea.
Use a dab of strawberry oil as perfume or cologne. Apply makeup or groom
yourself to look your best. Cast a circle with the willow wand around a table
the other ingredients. Light the second pink candle. Mix all oils and herbs in
the bowl. While you stir look at Yourself in the mirror and say aloud: "Oh,
Great Mother Goddess, enclose me in your loving arms and nurture and bring forth
the Goddess within me." Gaze deeply into the mirror after you have finished
mixing the ingredients and say aloud, "I represent the Great Goddess, Mother of
all things. I shine in the light of the Golden Wings of Isis. All that is great
and loving only belongs to me." Then put half the mixture in the pink bag and
add the penny and crystal. Carry it with you always [or until you find another
love]. Leave the other half of the potion in the bowl, out in a room where you
will smell the fragrance. Repeat this ritual every Friday if necessary.

Book: Gothic Grimoire by Konstantinos

In this day and age when Witchcraft & Wicca books are plentiful, it is rare to find something worthwhile and truly inspiring.

Let me tell you, this book is an exception and I cannot recommend it highly enough!! It was quite refreshing to see Lewellyn publishing something insightful and informative again, rather than re-hashing the same old topics cloaked in the latest "pantheon du jour."

Konstantinos' frank, descriptive writing style is one that is easy to relate to, both for the novice Witch and for those like myself who have been on this path long before the "Charmed" sect decided it would be fun to dabble in. And how nice to know that someone actually cracks open the "old school" tomes like Franz Bardon, Dion Fortune and RJ Stewart to bring that wisdom to the fore of modern Witchcraft practice.

Too often, today's Witchcraft authors leave out the whys and wherefores of how the circle is cast, how a condenser is created and how energies can be directed and transformed. There's been too much glossing over of such important elements of the art, science and practicum of magick....its a wonder any modern students of the Old Ways are getting anything from ritual and spell work at all.

But let me tell you, as a woman who has been working with paganism for nearly two decades, this book is different. Not only is it is very apparent that the author has indeed tried to "walk his talk" in his spiritual path (another thing often lost on the newer generation of Witches), it's obvious that through intense study, trial-and-error and thoughtful practice he has actually gleaned the knowledge he espouses. What a concept!! To teach from serious first-hand experience rather than spouting rote diatribes!!

Any real Witch would know that Gardner, Sanders, Buckland and Valiente started from deeper roots of knowledge, and so too has this author. What a wonderful way to show how very important it is that the foundations of magickal practice not be glossed
over in haste.

By giving readers clues, hints and homework rather than blatantly
dictating his findings, the author encourages the reader to experiment and explore their magickal abilities until they find the core of truth within themselves. Not to mention his ground-breaking ideas of reconciling Dark Magicks.....a long time coming brother! Amen!

Readers of both this book and the companion, "Nocturnal Witchcraft," are in for a rare treat...an excellent writer and teacher.

The word Voodoo, which has many different names and spellings (like Vodun, Vodou, Voudou, Vudu, Vodoun) is the name of a West African religion. Voodoo is animist and spiritist, and a lot of Voodoo beliefs have to do with ancestor spirits. Some of it is based on Catholic beliefs, but most of Voodoo is from the Fon, Ewe, and Yoruba peoples. The word vodun is the Fon-Ewe word for spirit.

In Voodoo many gods and spirits are prayed to or called on. Both spirits of nature and of dead people are important. The spirits of family member who have died are especially important. Voodoo often has rituals with music and dancing. Drums are used to make most of this music. In Voodoo people often believe that a spirit is in their body and controlling the body. Having a spirit come into is wanted, and important. This spirit can speak for the gods or dead people you love, and can also help to heal or do magic.

Some Pagans use animal parts in ritual. While this may seem a bit unsavory to some folks, it's really not that uncommon. A good guideline to follow is as follows:

* if your tradition doesn't forbid the use of animal parts, AND
* the parts are gathered humanely and ethically

then there's no reason you can't use them. Let's look at some of the different parts you might want to use.

Thousands of years ago, our ancestors performed rituals and ceremonies. They didn’t have tools ordered from an online catalog or purchased at the Local Wytchy Shoppe. They made do with what they had. For the ancients, many of their tools -- both magical and mundane -- came from the animal kingdom. Few things went to waste. Bones could be turned into anything from a knife to a sewing needle. An antler could be used as a weapon or a farming tool. A horse's bladder might become a pouch to carry herbs. Anything was usable.

In some shamanic traditions, animal parts can be used to connect the practitioner to the animal. One might wear a necklace made of bear claws, a headdress of antlers, or use a fetish of bone and feathers. Some traditions still use these today. Someone wishing to celebrate fertility might use the antlers of a stag, for example. An individual hoping for transformation could perhaps powder a bit of snakeskin for use in a spell. A person who wants to develop their inspiration and creativity might use feathers in a working, and so forth.
Naturally Dropped Items

These are the items that animals discard on their own as part of the natural cycle. Snakes shed their skin regularly. Deer shed antlers after the fall mating season has ended, typically around January through April. A bird may lose feathers as it flies overhead. These are all items that drop on their own naturally, and there is nothing wrong with picking them up and using them.
Items from a Dead Animal

Animals die. It's part of the natural cycle of things. After they've died, sometimes you may find pieces of carcasses lying around. Bones, fur and other parts can be gathered from animal that has died on its own. If you happen to be a pagan who hunts for food, you may wish to use some of the parts of the animal you've killed. This prevents waste, and allows you to maintain some connection with the animal after death. If you are the one who has made the kill, be sure you have done so in a humane and ethical manner. It's never okay to kill an animal just to use its parts in ritual.
Purifying Animal Parts

It's generally a good idea to offer some sort of thanks to the animal before using the item in ritual. As part of this process, you might want to cleanse or purify the object -- you can use smudging, asperging, or any other method of ritually purifying the item. You can also consecrate it as you would any other magical tool.

You will need a new candle, the colour of your choice. Choose something that corresponds with the type of spell you wish to perform. Consecrate the candle and carve a pentagram on it. Say:

"Upon this candle I will write What I receive of thee this night,
Grant me what I wish you to do;
I dedicate this rite to you.
I trust that you will grant this boon, O lovely Goddess of the Moon."

This type of candle magick spell works well with any ritual.

TO WORK CANDLE magick 2

Hold your hands on each side of the candle and mentally pour thoughts of your aim into the candle. When you are ready, light the candle, say:

Candle of power, candle of might, Create my desires here on this night.
Power, stream from this candle's fire. Bring to me my heart's desire.
My words have strength, the victory's won. So say I. This spell is done.

It is best to let the candle burn to the end. Remember: The longer you let the candle burn, the stronger the spell,

A Candle Blessing Ritual

Rub anointing oil into the wax of the candle starting at the middle and working your way up to the top as you say:

'I CONSECRATE THEE AS A TOOL OF MAGICK. BLESSED BE!'

Start at the middle and go downwards this time and say:

'I CHARGE THEE WITH POWER IN THE NAME OF THE GODDESS. SO MOTE IT BE!'

Voodoo is a faith that is a combination of Roman Catholicism and the tribal spiritualism of West Africa. When the slaves (primarily in Haiti) were taught Christianity, it blended with their own spiritualism and became what's known as voodoo. While a complicated faith to an outsider, voodoo can be learned and understood. Additionally, the inherent magic of voodoo can also be performed if a person learns it.

How to Learn Voodoo Magic

1. Step 1

Learn about voodoo as a religion and faith. Voodoo is a religion first and a form of magic second. One cannot practice the magic until they learn about the spirits, called the Loa, who grant this power and aid.

2. Step 2

Find an experienced teacher, if possible. Voodoo is like any other faith; you can read all the books that you want, but in the end you should speak with other practitioners about it to learn from their experience.

3. Step 3

Design a ritual. Voodoo, like any other faith, is symbolic. However, that doesn't mean that voodoo spells are created like a recipe. There isn't a "speak these words, perform this action" sort of formula to voodoo magic. Rituals represent a spell, and they should be unique to each person. For instance, a love spell could call out to a certain Loa for help, and while you speak a poem that you wrote yourself, you could light red candles to represent love and power. You could also keep a photograph of the person you love on the altar as you ask for the Loa's help. Each "spell" should be unique, and crafted to the needs of the caster and the unique situation they need help in.

Tips & Warnings

* Be realistic in your expectations. Voodoo won't be a quick fix to your problems if you aren't willing to solve them from a spiritual and a reality-based perspective.
* Avoid internet sites or mass media books that claim they can teach "voodoo spells" that will make you rich, powerful and attractive. At best these spells are fluff, and at worst they could make you seem like an unbeliever, ruining your chances of getting actual help.

While magic seems trivial or even silly to most people, it isn't. Magic pervades in our everyday lives. If you have ever witnessed a strange event or experienced a strange sensation for which you have no explanation or wanted something so badly that you willed it to happen, these are magic experiences.The exciting part is that it can be controlled and used to your advantage.

While there is white and black magic, it is the black magic---sometimes termed as evil magic or voodoo---that allows us to cast spells that have almost immediate results. White magic is fine and likely more healthy for you, but there is no doubt that there is a certain allure to being able to cast an evil voodoo spell. Not only is the involvement in black magic fun, but it can help you acquire some of the things in life that you need right now.

With the economy in shambles and so many people down on their luck, it's a wonder that more people aren't exploring the use of magic to help affect their lives. While it is a challenge, casting an evil spell can be done and you can learn exactly how to do it.

Instructions:

1. Step 1

Choose your evil voodoo spell. There are several resources on the Web to choose the exact spell you want to use. The website Arcane-archive (see Resources below) is a great place to get a list of evil voodoo spells and the exact instructions on how to cast them. You'll need candles, a doll or even some blood. For the sake of this article we will use the "Death" spell.

2. Step 2

Gather a possession of the victim. Most evil voodoo spells also require something of the person on whom you are casting the spell. This can be in the form of a hair clipping, an article of clothing or something that will not be missed by the victim.

3. Step 3

Find a quiet place to do the ritual, preferably on a moonlit night. You will need a black candle, some needles, chalk, some flammable liquid such as lighter fluid and a sharp knife.

4. Step 4

Cast from your magic circle. Almost all spells should be cast from the protection of a magic circle. A protective Magic Circle can be drawn on the ground, in the sand, or even painted onto an article of fabric. Most protective magic circles are done in black and white, although colors can be used. In casting your evil spell, you will be calling forth many evil forces that could potentially harm you.

5. Step 5

Fashion a doll effigy of the victim using something flammable. Tissue paper works great.

6. Step 6

Light your black candle.

7. Step 7

Draw an image of the Satanic baphomet (an idol) on the ground in front of you. You can actually use any image you desire, such as a skull and crossbones. The more evil, the better!

8. Step 8

Place the doll effigy in the center of the image you just drew and invoke Abaddon the Destroyer. You should use something that you've written yourself for this invocation. The more personal the better. You should take a firm, strong tone. Be confident and state your reasons why Abaddon should help you. It is almost like a job interview where you want to succeed badly, and you will convince your potential employer in any way you can to help you.

9. Step 9

Direct all the rage and hatred you can muster into the doll effigy. You can even give it the finger, make gestures and speak to the effigy. After all, this is the person that has caused you so much pain in your life and it is time you told them what it's all about.

10. Step 10

Plunge your needles into the doll--first in the abdomen, then the head and finally the heart.

11. Step 11

Using the knife, cut the doll from head to groin, connecting the needles like dots.

12. Step 12

Place the doll effigy back into the image and set it ablaze, calling on the spirit of Abaddon to help you.

13. Step 13

Go have a beer. After all, you deserve it. You just set in motion the demise of your most hated enemy. While the curse might not take effect right away, the seed you have placed will take root and grow. And you probably feel much better after casting the spell.

Tips & Warnings

* You must always remember to be careful in casting an evil voodoo spell. When drawing upon the dark powers from beyond this world, you will be putting yourself at risk. These come in the form of evil spirits that you are trying to control to do your bidding. If you cast your spell incorrectly, you are opening yourself up to potential dangers and ill luck. Whatever your reasons for wanting to cast an evil voodoo spell, always be careful and follow directions to the letter. Don't be lazy when it comes to the details. Casting an evil voodoo spell can be fun, but don't let your ego get the best of you. While you can certainly be a force in this world, you are nothing compared to the forces of the netherworld.

Casting voodoo spells is associated with dark magic in popular culture. Followers of voodoo, however, frown on most forms of magic. They believe that a body that lives in harmony with the lwa (spirits) does not require magic to balance its existence. For those that do practice magic or charms, they must never practice selfish magic or spells. When ougans (priests) and mambos (medicine men) use magic, it is protective in nature.

Casting voodoo spells instructions

Step 1. Consult an ougan or mambo prior to performing a voodoo ritual yourself (see Resource section below). Devotees of voodoo do not perform magical rites or spells without the guidance of a strong ougan who has taken an oath to do no harm.

Step 2. Choose the lwa (spirit) for the charm. A typical voodoo spell or charm protects from harm or evil. The charm may be inscribed on a person (via tattoo) or on an object that is dedicated and blessed by the ougan.

Step 3. Dress in red. The ougan will dress in red and sacrifice a rooster or a chicken to summon the lwa for the protective charm. Be aware that ritualistic animal sacrifice is illegal in most states unless it is part of an organized religion and recognized as such.

Step 4. Carve the symbol of the lwa onto the object for the charm. The ougan may also tattoo or paint the symbol on the person receiving the charm.

Step 5. Use herbs to cleanse the wound or tattoo (see Resources section below). The types of herbs used are often at the discretion of the ougan or mambo who should be well-versed in herb-lore. Some herbal concoctions can be purchased through designated voodoo shops for ritual purification. Certain initiation ceremonies require the ritualistic marking of members with identifying marks.

Tips And Warnings

Beware of fake voodoo practitioners on the Internet. Do not perform voodoo charms or magic unsupervised. Voodoo is a religion and should be respected.

No, the magic spells aren't going to make you fly through the air or become the object of every man's desire (but really, who wants that many men fawning over them and getting jealous?) But, the magic spells that are found in spell books can help you better yourself. There are all different kinds of magic spells. For example, there are money spells, protective spells, traveling spells, good health spells etc. The list is endless. What you're really doing when you're casting a spell is sending out vibes to the universe. In essence, you're saying, "Please help me achieve this goal."

So where can you find these books? Anywhere. You can buy spell books at Amazon, Barnes and Noble or download for free from torrent or sites like darkbooks.org. If you wan't get it from online, find a offline bookstore close to you. And then there are always the witch stores you know, the ones that have incense pouring out of them when you walk by. The books are widely available and not that expensive. And there are as many different spell books as there are magic spells. So before you buy one, you have to decide what you want to do with it.

Another option for learning magic spells is to find a coven near you. You might think you're the only person interested in Wicca, but odds are there's at least one other person in your area that's either interested or practicing. Learning from someone else is much easier than learning from a book.

Covens have vast amounts of knowledge. And a coven doesn't mean thirteen witches. Well, traditionally it does, but in today's society, a coven is how a group of wiccans is referred to, whether they're lead by a High Priestess or not. So really, you only need one or two other people who know what they're doing to help you start out.

Still with me? The other thing that you need to do is become familiar with different herbs and crystals (and stones). They play a big part in most magic spells. For instance, Lapis Lazuli helps your second sight. Tigers Eye is a protective stone. Don't worry if you're not drawn to both herbs and crystals. If one resonates more with you, that's ok. Personally, I'm drawn to crystals much more than herbs. You don't have to memorize every detail about all the herbs and crystals that you'll be using simply because you can always buy books that list their characteristics. But it is good to be familiar with at least some of them. The more familiar you are, the easier spell casting will be. And, you can create your own magic spells or personalize ones that you found in books to fit your needs more specifically. And then you have to practice. Practice, practice, practice. You'll never be good at spellcasting without it. But remember, no matter if you buy a book, or books, about spell casting, or find someone close to you who is a practicing Wiccan. The first rule is this: do no harm. Whatever you send out to the universe comes back to you by three. Send out good vibes, and you'll receive good vibes. Step 1. CREATE A SAFE BUBBLE FOR YOURSELF. The easiest way is to light a candle and stay within its glow. If you are casting a spell for someone who is with you, they should stay within the glow of the candle light as well. This helps the good energy to surround you and keep the bad energy away from you.
It is good to cast spells at night so that you can see the protective circle of light. For best results, cast your spell at the full moon. The energy pull of the earth is greatest at the full moon and since you are trying to change the energy forces by casting a spell, you want them to be at full magnitude.

Step 2. CAREFULLY CHOOSE THE GOAL OF YOUR SPELL. Casting a spell is a way of initiating change. It is not difficult to cast a spell, but you have to be sincere. Before you begin to cast a spell, decide what it is that you want to change. Is it a relationship? Do you want to change how someone feels about you? How about your financial situation? Do you want more money? Maybe you want to lose weight. Before you begin a spell, think about what it is that you want to change and what is holding you back. Step 3. HOLD HANDS OR A PERSONAL ITEM IF CASTING A SPELL FOR SOMEONE ELSE. If you are doing the spell for someone else, hold their hand and both of you should close your eyes and raise your palms to the sky. If the person for whom you are doing the spell can't be there, you should hold something of theirs in your hands so their energy is present. You can have a ring, a piece of hair, a glass they drank out of, a hairbrush, piece of clothing, etc. It really doesn't matter what you use as long as that person had contact with it. Then say:

Fill in the first blank with the name of the person for whom you are doing the spell and fill in the second blank with the reason for the spell. For example, do you want to help your friend get good grades? Then say "Join with my energy and Carl's energy to help him get an A from his math teacher."

Step 4. WRITE DOWN WHAT IS STOPPING YOU FROM REACHING YOUR GOAL. After you say the spell verses above three times, write on a small piece of paper (about the size of a post it note) what is holding you back from your goal. If you want someone to fall in love with you, write down what is stopping that from happening. If you want more money, write down what is keeping money from you.

If you are casting a spell for someone else, ask them to think about what is stopping them from accomplishing their goal. For example: Sara asks you to cast a love spell on John because she wants him to fall in love with her. The barrier to that might be: John is in love with Joan. Write "Joan is keeping John from falling in love with Sara" on the paper.

Step 5.BURN THE PAPER TO SEND OFF YOUR SPELL. Once you are finished writing the barrier to the goal, fold the paper in half, then in half again. Using the flame from your lit candle, set the paper on fire and drop it in a dish or container that will not burn. Let the paper burn completely on its own. Do not blow it out. While it is burning say:

"Move beyond my sphere of influence and remove the barriers to my wishes.
Move beyond the forces of this world and dissolve the boundaries that limit my will.
Move beyond the edges of reason and go to the limits of the universe where all things are possible and cast my spell."

Step 6. CHECK THE ASHES FOR THE RESULT OF YOUR SPELL. Once the fire has gone out, check to see if the paper has completely turned to ash. If there is any area that is not burned, that means that the spell will not work. Either you or the person for whom you are doing the spell is not sincere, or the universe is saying no to your request at this time. You will have to try again at a later time.

Think of reasons why the spell didn't work. Did you sincerely think about the all barriers to your goal? Are you sure you understand the complete consequences to your request? Maybe the universe is trying to get you to think about something that you have not fully grasped at this time or don't want to think about.

If the paper has blackened completely by the time the fire goes out, that means that the energy forces are now moving in your favor. Focus on your goal in order to keep the positive energy flowing. If you create negative energy before the spell works its magic, you will create barriers to the fulfillment of the spell, and you may have to start over again.


Tips to Casting Spells

* Spells are only effective if you believe them to be. If you want your magic to work, you need to have faith in yourself. It's all about perception and willpower.
* One key thing to remember is to try and stop your mind from thinking about anything apart from the spell.
* If you are trying to cast a spell and it isn't working make sure you truly want that to happen, if you don't the spell will most likely not work because you won't be using as much willpower as you would have been.

Warnings to Casting Spells

* You can cast a black spell on someone, but you must be careful that some of the negative energy doesn't come back to you. When you cast love spells or prosperity spells for others, the good white magic has a chance of spilling over on you, and you may find yourself in love or winning the lottery. The same is true for black spells. The negative energy can spill over on you creating havoc in your life. Think carefully before you create negative energy by casting black spells. They can't be controlled as easily as white spells. Somehow when you send negative energy out into the world, it has a way of finding you, even though you have sent it to someone else. You will need:

* A piece of parchment or fine quality writing paper
* A black marker
* A needle

1. Using your marker, inscribe the name of the person you want to call, on the paper. Write it in a circle twice, so the ends meet.
2. As you do this, concentrate on the person's face and your desire that they call you.
3. While still concentrating, put a needle through the center of the circle created by the name.
4. Place the charm by the phone.
5. The call will come within 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 days, depending how well the spell was cast!

Easy Love Spell

This spell is easy- just say the following words and concentrate on the one you love:

"Earth and Sea,
Keep harm from me.
Wind and Fire,
Bring my desire."

Finding Spell

Concentrate on thinking about the thing that you lost, then say these words:

"Bound and binding, binding Bound,
See the sight, hear the sound.
What was lost, now is found,
Bound and binding, binding bound."

Kiss Me Spell

This is a spell that is supposed to get your crush to kiss you!
You will need:

* A red candle
* A white piece of paper
* A red-colored lipstick or a glittery pink one

1. Light the red candle (be careful).
2. Draw a lip print on the white piece of paper.
3. Hold the paper over the candle and think of the person you want to kiss you.
4. Visualize you both kissing and falling in love, while you chant:

"Kiss me when we meet,
Kiss me (lovers full name),
Greet me with your lips and say you missed me,
But most of all kiss me."

Make Someone Fall in Love with You

Be warned that this spell would be considered forcing the will of another and is written almost like a binding spell, and so would be against the Wiccan Rede: "An it harm none, do what ye will." Be prepared for the Threefold Law.

You will need:

* A photograph of you
* A photograph of your crush ( must be the same size as your photo - yearbook pictures are good for this)
* A red sewing pin
* A piece of netting (fishnet stockings will do)

1. Go outside on the night of a new moon with the items listed above.
2. Put the picture of you and the picture of the person you like together so the faces are touching.
3. Stick the sewing pin through both pictures where the faces are, saying "Face to face."
4. Pull the pin out and stick it through both pictures again, this time at the level of your hearts, saying "Heart to heart."
5. Keeping the pictures face to face, wrap them in the netting or stockings.
6. Hide the bundle somewhere where nobody will find it.
7. Your love will come to you.

Protection from Evil Intent

This charm is supposed to prevent those with evil intentions (say, an enemy who wants to spread rumors about you) from having any effect.

* An acorn
* A brightly colored marker
* a fire cracker
* a lighter

1. Using the marker, paint a smiley face on the acorn.
2. Light fire cracker let explode 10 feet away
3. Carry the ancient spirit called "The Oak Man" who is said to live in acorns. He is a kind spirit who protects innocent folk who are attacked by evil thinkers. Carry the acorn in your pocket to protect yourself.

Spell of Fortune

1. Take a large bowl. Drip into its bottom six drops of colored candle wax (any color). Stick a white candle firmly into this.
2. The different colors represent goals and needs, the white candle binds them all together.
3. Light the candle each morning and drop a coin into the bowl. Make your daily wish. Snuff out the candle (never blow it out, blowing it out creates energy backlash).
4. When you truly need a wish fulfilled, take a coin from the bowl and bury it in rich soil (houseplant dirt will do) or throw it into moving water.

Follow by binding your enemy to his own fear and powerlessness. Forbid him from gaining power over you, and close the circle by ringing the bell three more times.

Step 5. Cast a black magic spell to ward off bad luck. Open the circle by extending your arms. Focus your mind on the bad luck that afflicts you and kneel to the ground. Still concentrating, dig a handful of dirt, and holding it in your hand, imagine the trouble or pain you want to cast away. State the exact problem or affliction--for example, trouble at work, a co-worker out to "get you" or gambling debt--and then throw the dirt over your shoulder. For many modern-day Pagans and Wiccans, being part of a coven is not an option. You may not live around any other people who share your beliefs, or perhaps you haven’t yet found the group that’s right for you. Or maybe you’ve just decided you enjoy being a solitary, eclectic practitioner. That’s fine, too. However, one of the benefits of being part of a coven or grove is the initiation process. This is a formal ceremony in which one dedicates oneself to the group and to the gods of the tradition. If you don’t have a group or High Priest to initiate you, what do you do?

Quite simply, you can self-dedicate.

Here's How:
1.By the very definition of the word, you can’t initiate yourself, because to initiate requires more than one person. But what you CAN do is dedicate yourself to your path and to the gods you have chosen to follow. For many people, doing this as part of a formal ritual helps to cement their relationship with the Divine. Some people choose to wait until they have studied for a year and a day before having a formal self-dedication rite. It’s entirely up to you.

2.You may want to wait until the time of the new moon to perform this self-dedication, because it is a time of new beginnings. Bear in mind that self-dedication is a commitment you are making; it should not be done at random or without significant thought beforehand.

This goal of this rite is to bring the dedicant closer to the Divine, as well as to declare your connection to your spiritual path.

3.You should perform this ritual skyclad, if at all possible. Find a place that is quiet, private, and free of distractions. Turn off your cell phone and send the kids out to play if you have to. You will need the following items:

•Blessing oil
•Half a teaspoon of salt
•A white candle

Begin by grounding yourself. Find your inner peace, and become good and relaxed. Shut out all the things from your mundane life that distract you -- forget for a while about paying the bills, your son’s baseball practice, and whether or not you fed the cat. Focus only on yourself, and the tranquility you’re entitled to.

4.When you’re ready to proceed, sprinkle the salt on the floor or ground, and stand on it.

Light your white candle, and feel the warmth of the flame. Look into the glow of the fire and think about what goals you have for yourself on your spiritual journey. Think about your motivations for performing this self-dedication.

5.Stand before your altar, and say:

I am a child of the gods, and I ask them to bless me.

Dip your finger into the blessing oil, and with eyes closed, anoint your forehead. Some people do this by tracing a pentagram on the skin with the oil. Say:

May my mind be blessed, so that I can accept the wisdom of the gods.

Anoint the eyelids (be careful here!) and say:

May my eyes be blessed, so I can see my way clearly upon this path.

Anoint the tip of your nose with the oil, and say:

May my nose be blessed, so I can breathe in the essence of all that is Divine.

6.Anoint your lips, and say:

May my lips be blessed, so I may always speak with honor and respect.

Anoint your chest, and say:

May my heart be blessed, so I may love and be loved.

Anoint the tops of your hands, and say:

May my hands be blessed, so that I may use them to heal and help others.

Anoint your genital area, and say:

May my womb be blessed, so that I may honor the creation of life.

Anoint the soles of your feet, and say:

May my feet be blessed, so that I may walk side by side with the Divine.

7.If you have specific deities you follow, pledge your loyalty to them now. Otherwise, you can use simply “God and Goddess”, or “Mother and Father”. Say:

Tonight, I pledge my dedication to the God and Goddess. I will walk with them beside me, and ask them to guide me on this journey. I pledge to honor them, and ask that they allow me to grow closer to them. As I will, so it shall be.

Take some time to meditate. Feel the afterglow of the ritual, and feel the energy of the gods around you. You have brought yourself to the attention of the Divine, so they will be keeping an eye on you. Accept the gift of their wisdom.

Remain watching by the candles until the are burnt out. These things may be taken away but the stone must be buried near you house until the spell is withdrawn.
