From there, she outlines several steps including developing readers' psychic abilities, tapping into the cycles of the moon and sensing the energies of the seasons that are designed to encourage readers to practice the craft from a more spiritually centered place and ease their anxieties about whether they're "good enough" Wiccans. Interspersed throughout the text are lively anecdotes from Dugan's own Samantha Stephensesqe household. She speaks of her struggles to deal with nosy evangelical Christians and her teenage daughter's rejection-cum-furtive acceptance of her mother's religion. She also chats about some uncomfortable experiences she's had in group settings with other Wiccans where her own intuitive approach to the craft has been frowned upon by practitioners who are supposedly more learned. While some more experienced Witches will likely find Dugan's spells and spiritual practices to be boilerplate, the value of this book lies in the warm, personal touch Dugan uses both in her writing and in her craft.

I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to start a circle or to anyone who is solo and wants to use your stregths to work the craft as well as personal growth. This form of witchery is beautiful and I was so glad to see I wasn't alone. I absolutely adore Ellen Dugan's books. Her down-to-earth style is refreshing, and is most definitely shown in her new book, Natural Witchery. Her ability to write about natural magick, how it connects us all and it's poetic beauty is amazing, and not to be missed.

BREATHE DEEPLY AND MEDITATE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN YOUR MIND IS CLEAR, LIGHT THE CANDLE. VISUALIZE THE POWER OF THE SPELL CAST AGAINST YOU AS LIVING WITHIN THE CANDLES FLAME. AS THE CANDLE BURNS DOWN, IT WILL SPLUTTER AND GO OUT AS IT TOUCHES THE WATER. AS IT IS EXTINGUISHED BY THE WATER, THE SPELL IS BROKEN.FINALLY, DIG A HOLE IN TO THE GROUND, POUR THE WATER INTO IT, THEN BURY THE CANDLE.

TO SOOTHE A BROKEN HEART AFTER A Relationship
BREAKS UP

This is a two-part spell I designed for people who have recently ended a
relationship but feel that they just can't let go.

You will need:

one egg
one pink candle
rose petals
lemon balm
honey
rose oil (optional)

Take the egg in one hand. Sit quietly and think about the relationship you have
just ended, and your feelings about splitting up. Allow all your negative
feelings, grief, frustration and loneliness to come to the surface. Cry, howl
and bawl if you need to - the end of a relationship is like a death and you
should allow yourself to grieve and not feel ashamed about it.

While thinking about the relationship, take the egg and roll it gently over your
face and forehead. Imagine that the egg is like a sponge which can soak up your
grief, your need, and all the negative emotions which are holding you back and
dampening your spirits. Project all your unhappiness over the relationship into
the egg and let it soak up all your negative feelings.

When you feel that the egg has sucked up all your unhappiness and negative
feelings over this broken relationship, take it to a plot of earth - preferably
not your own garden - and bury it. If it must be on your property, bury it as
far as possible from your house. Know that the negative feelings and depression
you projected onto the egg are being absorbed and neutralized by the earth.

Return to your house, preferably to your own bedroom or some place where you
spend a lot of time. Make yourself some lemon balm tea With Some of the rose
petals, and sweeten it to taste with honey. Sprinkle the rest of the rose petals
around the candle and yourself, if you have enough. Light the candle. Imagine
the warmth of the candle and the scent of the rose petals combining and filling
the room with warmth, sweet rose scent and soft pink light. Let the pink light
and scent fill you with loving warmth and comfortable feelings. If you have
some, anoint your chest just over the Heart With a little rose oil.

Sip the lemon balm tea. Say quietly and with conviction:

'Gentle balm, soothe my heart
Bring to me your healing art'.

Imagine yourself surrounded by love and peace, sheltered from discomfort and
loneliness. Know that you deserve love and that you are now free of your
previous relationship and open to a new one. Gaze into the candle flame and
imagine yourself happy and healed, living a joyful and fulfilling life without
the person you have just broken up with.

Ms. Telesco is one of my favorite Craft authors and never fails to impress me with her creativity, along with the usefulness and variety of ideas, spells and practices. I really enjoy her way of the Craft and so I'm even more thrilled when she comes out with books that go beyond the 101/learning/beginning stages, like this one. She doesn't spend a lot of time on the basics, which is nice because that's usually (as it should be IMO) understood if you're picking up a more advanced book. A nice compliment to its predecessor and a useful addition to the book collection of anyone interested in the area of Candle Magic.

Do this ritual the night before the full moon in any month. Before working this magic, bathe in rose or orange blossom gel or soap.

Items you will need for this spell:

* A lock of your lover's hair (7 or 9 hairs are enough)
* A cinnamon stick
* Petals of one red rose
* 3 rose quartz (cleansed by the method of your choice)
* Walnuts in the shell (about 1 pound)

Having assembled your supplies:

* Grate the cinnamon stick in a wooden bow.
* Cut your lover's hair into the grated cinnamon and mix with the rose petals.
* Place the 3 rose quartz in the cinnamon-hair-rose petals mixture.

As you carefully stir the mixture clockwise say:

I will remember you with love

I want you to be my love

This love will span all distance

Now I bind our love together

Leave the mixture untouched over night. Next day sprinkle a pinch of the cinnamon-hair-rose petals mixture over the walnuts in the shell. Take one rose quartz and the rest of the mixture and bury them under a rose bush. Send the walnuts and one rose quartz to your lover. Keep the remaining rose quartz with you" (c) 2006 Amerindea."
