Book review: Journal Of Experimental Spirituality by Ashe

At first glance, this issue may appear to be a departure from our previous offerings. William S. Burroughs has long been and continues to be, though somewhat softened by time, a controversial figure. His life and theories remain kewl and are still discovered by successive younger generations. To a large extent Burroughs is talked about but not discussed. He has become another larger than life pop icon—all be it one that retains the potential to be both edgy and disruptive. Key quotes and his larger theoretical constructs are discussed in academic, literate and specialized circles. Few, however, actually peer beneath the hood and attempt to figure out the moving parts in his engine of genius. Even fewer have looked at his theories in a spiritual, or more appropriately a magical, context. At the center of his work, especially from The Wild Boys forward, is a grappling with his reality of a magical universe populated by diverse gods and multiple zones beyond the control of the terrestrial material world.

Would it surprise one that Burroughs wrote often of drugs, control systems and communication? Probably not. Would it surprise the casual fan that he believed in a magical universe, felt affinity with the Egyptian notion of seven souls and was an initiated Chaos magician at the time of his death? Quite possibly. Burroughs’ later writing is infused with complex episodes and examinations of the magical universe, the importance of dream space, the travels of the soul after death and the power of magick. His characters conduct postmodern rituals from the wild boy tribes’ unigenesis to his hard-boiled detective’s occult investigative techniques. Sometimes spiritual gnosis is a lambent flame warming the seeker with the careful time-honed glow of wisdom and sometimes spiritual metamorphosis is a blast furnace reducing the old to ash. Much of the work contained in this feature would fit the latter more than the former. Some may find portions of this material disturbing or offensive. There is currently a notion circulating in scientific research circles that high risk holds the potential for high gain. There are those who have reached the determination that the

Once the rite is ended, face North, hold aloft the wand and say:

Farewell, Spirit of the North Stone.
I give thanks for your presence here.
Go in power.

Repeat this same formula to the East, South and West, substituting the proper direction in the words. Then return to the North and hold the wand aloft for a few moments.

Lay the wand on the altar. Take up the athame. Standing in the North, pierce the circle's wall with the blade at waist level. Move clockwise around the circle, visualizing it's power being sucked back into the athame. Literally pull it back into the blade and handle. Sense the circle dissolving, shrinking; the outside world slowly regaining its dominance in the area. When you arrive at the North again, the circle is no more.

Here is a spell for "freezing out" and getting rid of people, situations, and whatever else you don't want to have in your life anymore. Just be sure that you really DON'T want whatever it is that you put into this spell because it really does work.

You will need:

* Black Candle
* Aluminum Foil
* Picture of whatever (whoever) it is you want to get rid of - or you can just write it (names, situation, circumstances, etc) on a sheet of paper. Be as specific as possible.

Now, light the candle, lay the picture and/or the paper on a sheet of aluminum foil. Fold the foil with the paper/picture on it seven times. Seal the package with wax from the burning candle.

While you are sealing it say:

"No longer can you enter my life,

no longer can you cause me strife,

on ice you go. on ice you stay,

go you now away this day."

Then place the package in the back of your freezer knowing it is done. Leave the package there until you are sure that the spell has worked. You can then remove it and drop it into a dumpster far from your home" at" Gay "

Take a piece of parchment or fine quality writing paper and inscribe the name of the target. Write it in a circle twice, so the ends meet. As you do this, concentrate on the person's face and your desire that they call you. Then, while still concentrating, put a needle through the center of the circle created by the name. Place the charm by the phone.

The call will come within 5 minutes, 5 hours, or 5 day, depending on how well the spell was cast and how much will
power was used. This spell is wonderfull and worked for me......

Spread out a white handkerchief. On it, place a clipping of your pet's hair and a picture of your home or one of you and your pet together. Imagine your pet back in its favorite inside place, sleeping contentedly. Keep this image in mind and say:

"From this place you will not roam,

For you are safe and loved at home.

Whenever you leave, Return to me,

From this dawn onward. So mote it be!

Wrap the photo and hair in the hankie and tie it securely. Place it near your pet's favorite inside place.

SELF-DEFENSE AND BANES

I surely agree that we have every right to protect ourselves and our "own folk"
from attack. But I do believe that shield and mirror workings are more efficient, effective and elegant at accomplishing the goal of self-protection.
Consider this - a mirror working is perfect justice. If I am mistaken, either that psychic attack is being done at all or about the perpetrator, a bane will jeopardize me karmically and (if psychic attack truly is being done by somebody other than the one I suspect) fail to protect me. A mirror sits there passively, ignores any mistaken paranoia that I may occasionally get, does nothing at all until and unless an attack happens, and then sends the bad energy directly back to the exactly deserving person or group in exactly the proper amount and kind.
A mirror is perfect justice.

A grounding shield is perfect mercy, taking bad energy and dissipating it harmlessly. I think I already said this but I recently talked one of my students into using a grounding shield where she would have been perfectly entitled to use a mirror. The situation is an ongoing battle between my student's lover and his former wife. While the ex-wife did an entirely unjustifiable attack, and would fully deserve to have it returned full force, all this would really accomplish would be to perpetuate the craziness, hostility and tension in the situation - and both the couple's innocent children and my students are being hurt. Better for all concerned to ignore justice and drain as much of the tension as possible, to make room for the healing that all of them need. A grounding shield is perfect mercy.

But banes and bindings, while they may give short term protection, risk your own karma, are susceptible to mistake, and may, if misdirected, even fail of their well-intended purpose. Sure you're entitled to self-protection. This is just a lousy way to go about it. I guess my kind of Warrior is Athena, the wise defender.

This meditation can be used for Angelic healing. I am practicing this meditation for all the people who are in need of wellbeing. You are welcome to use it. Let us send love and light to all those in need.

Begin by visualizing a sparkling celestial white light in front of you, breathing in and out, as you breathe in this angelic white light, feel the angelic light energy expanding and surrounding you. You feel a peaceful relaxing energy and as you continue to breathe gently you see the angelic light expansion is ever increasing within and around your body.

Now speak from your heart, and make your intention known to God, the Angels, and the Archangels: we call upon the Archangel Raphael and all the Angels of healing to work with people who are in need of wellness. We call on Archangels, the Angels, and Angelic hosts of white light to assist us and provide love to all minds, and hearts, and where physical healing is required now. (Visualize all people in Haiti).

You notice a large quartz crystal above your head, from this crystal a beam of white divine light slowly descends into your heart filling you with beautiful green emerald light. As the light fills all your heart you now see the Archangel Raphael’s emerald light radiating from your heart sending its beams of healing love towards all those who are in need. See the healing green and white lights swirling outwardly, radiating toward others. Visualize and see all survivors, adults and children, being showered with the white light and their hearts blessed with the healing and loving emerald light, you see that all healers, doctors, service workers and all individuals are being blessed with the white light and are supported with strength, power and angelic guidance to provide support and healing.

We pray and send healing light to all souls that have passed on and have been carried and comforted by their Angels and loved ones and are now in a place of peace, love, and in the company of God and Angels and all Light beings. We pray and send healing light to all those who grieve so they may find calmness and consolation. We pray and send healing and blessings of light to all Earth Angels, that can provide help and support and be of service at this time.

Now we give thanks to God and the Angels for the blessings of love, comfort, peace and healings received. And so it is. Amen.
