The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion

The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion Cover

Book: The Book Of Shadows The Unofficial Charmed Companion by Ngaire Genge

The ultimate guide to the hit program Charmed, this is both a book of spells and a key to the mysteries of the show. The book of shadows celebrates the best of Charmed, from its roots in the ancient tradition of Wicca to insider information on the show's stars. N.E. Genge not only provides fascinating background details for the show's Wiccan elements, but also guides readers in performing their own magic. Fans with a witchy bent will learn about the tools of magic and divination and the casting of spells. Recipes and rituals -- from those that beckon love or bless a new business venture to those that bequeath strength or bestow fortune -- are all included. The Book of Shadows is a sassy celebration of witches, sisterhood, and magic.

This book has not been prepared, approved, licensed, endorsed, or in any way authorized by any entity that created or produced Charmed. Charmed is a fun show and remarkably unobjectionable to wiccans and other followers of alternative spiritual paths. The secret seems to be that no matter how much nonsense there is in it, it is true to the spirit and never harms. This book does a great job of distinguishing authentic traditions from the TV made-up stuff, and can introduce a novice (who might think "witchcraft" and "magic" look pretty cool, from watching the show, and wants an easy how-to guide) to the true traditions underlying the show - without giving too much away, either. After all, if you want real magic, you have to do it yourself, every step of the way, and you can't get that from a book; but the book is surprisingly good at conveying that concept. At the same time, for those who just want to know more about the show, this isn't an authorized book, but it has enough details from the show in it to satisfy most fans. Good job! If you just watch the show for the heck of it. this will enlighten you to the reality of wicca, which is something i wish i could do more, either way, wiccan or not, there is stuff about charmed all the way through, and you'll learn a lot about the most controversial part of the fastest growing religion in america also, magick. Definetly reccomended.

Voodoo Magic Spells

Voodoo Magic Spells Cover The word Voodoo, which has many different names and spellings (like Vodun, Vodou, Voudou, Vudu, Vodoun) is the name of a West African religion. Voodoo is animist and spiritist, and a lot of Voodoo beliefs have to do with ancestor spirits. Some of it is based on Catholic beliefs, but most of Voodoo is from the Fon, Ewe, and Yoruba peoples. The word vodun is the Fon-Ewe word for spirit.

In Voodoo many gods and spirits are prayed to or called on. Both spirits of nature and of dead people are important. The spirits of family member who have died are especially important. Voodoo often has rituals with music and dancing. Drums are used to make most of this music. In Voodoo people often believe that a spirit is in their body and controlling the body. Having a spirit come into is wanted, and important. This spirit can speak for the gods or dead people you love, and can also help to heal or do magic.

How To Cast Money Spell

Cast this spell on a Wednesday.
You will need:
One large cluster of Amethyst
One piece of Aventurine
One green ribbon
One red ribbon
Small amount of rice
You can perform this spell at any time of the day.
Start at the right side of your entrance doorway.
Working in a Deosil (clockwise direction), walk around your work place hold the Amethyst and the Aventurine in your right hand, with your left hand leave a few grains of rice on each window ledge (the rice symbolises new growth)., As you walk think of how you want your business to expand.
When you arrive back at the point you started from repeat the Angel Invocation:
Archangel Raphael I invoke you to bless my work
Business prosper
Business grow
Secure and successful
My dealings to flow
So Mote It Be
Thank the Archangel for helping you.
Tie the green ribbon to your telephone to ensure orders flow in and lines of communication are kept busy. Tie the red ribbon to your order book or cashbook this will ground your money and ease cash flow problems.
Place the Amethyst on your desk or workstation or near any equipment you use to earn your living. The Amethyst will aid your concentration and help you to put new ideas into practise. It will also help you to remain calm under pressure and alleviate stress.
Keep the Aventurine in your purse or wallet to ensure financial security.

Also I found another simple spell to work best if you needed a specific amount of money.

You can use either a green or a gold candle for this, the choice is up to you. Also needed is a piece of parchment, a pen with green ink, and a fireproof container. Some cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg incense should be burning…don’t worry it smells amazing.

Write down the amount that you need in green ink. Now, either draw a green box around it, or as I did, start tracing little swirls with the pen…like when you’re doodling. Keep moving the pen in little circles around and around the amount…it will become hypnotic after awhile. This is a good thing.

While drawing, chant something like:

Money for this bill I need,
Nothing more I have no greed.

Keep chanting and doodling until you feel like you’ve established some sort of connection, this is usually when you’ve put yourself in a sort of trance. It’s all good, don’t be afraid if you feel your body “humming”. When you’re ready, take the paper and light it from the candle, drop it into the container and wait till it stops.

Then take the ashes outside and cast them into the air saying:

This is my will So Mote it Be!

Within a week you should have results, if not, repeat once a week until results happen. Good magick takes time and practice.

How To Cast Voodoo Spells

How To Cast Voodoo Spells Cover Casting voodoo spells is associated with dark magic in popular culture. Followers of voodoo, however, frown on most forms of magic. They believe that a body that lives in harmony with the lwa (spirits) does not require magic to balance its existence. For those that do practice magic or charms, they must never practice selfish magic or spells. When ougans (priests) and mambos (medicine men) use magic, it is protective in nature.

Casting voodoo spells instructions

Step 1. Consult an ougan or mambo prior to performing a voodoo ritual yourself (see Resource section below). Devotees of voodoo do not perform magical rites or spells without the guidance of a strong ougan who has taken an oath to do no harm.

Step 2. Choose the lwa (spirit) for the charm. A typical voodoo spell or charm protects from harm or evil. The charm may be inscribed on a person (via tattoo) or on an object that is dedicated and blessed by the ougan.

Step 3. Dress in red. The ougan will dress in red and sacrifice a rooster or a chicken to summon the lwa for the protective charm. Be aware that ritualistic animal sacrifice is illegal in most states unless it is part of an organized religion and recognized as such.

Step 4. Carve the symbol of the lwa onto the object for the charm. The ougan may also tattoo or paint the symbol on the person receiving the charm.

Step 5. Use herbs to cleanse the wound or tattoo (see Resources section below). The types of herbs used are often at the discretion of the ougan or mambo who should be well-versed in herb-lore. Some herbal concoctions can be purchased through designated voodoo shops for ritual purification. Certain initiation ceremonies require the ritualistic marking of members with identifying marks.

Tips And Warnings

Beware of fake voodoo practitioners on the Internet. Do not perform voodoo charms or magic unsupervised. Voodoo is a religion and should be respected.

Love Potions

Love Potions Cover A potion (from latin potionis, meaning beverage, potion, poison) is a consumable medicine or poison.

In mythology and literature, a potion is usually made by a magician, sorcerer, dragon, fairy or witch and has magical properties. It might be used to heal, bewitch or poison people. For example, Love Potions make a person fall in love (or become deeply infatuated) with another (the love potion figures tragically into most versions of the tale of Tristan and Iseult, including Richard Wagner's opera Tristan und Isolde); sleeping potions cause a person to fall asleep (in folklore, this can range from normal sleep to a deathlike trance); and elixirs heal/cure any wound/malady (as in C.S. Lewis' The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe). Goscinny and Uderzo's character Asterix the Gaul gained superhuman strength from a magic potion brewed by the druid Getafix.

Creation of potions of different kinds was a common practice of alchemy, and was commonly associated with witchcraft, as in Macbeth.

During the 19th Century, it was common in certain countries to see wandering charlatans offering curative potions. These eventually gained reputations as quack medicines. In later years, these transformed into patent medicines.

In modern fantasy, potions are often portrayed as spells in liquid form, capable of causing a variety of effects, including healing, amnesia, infatuation, transformation, invisibility, and invulnerability.Potions have also gained popularity as a standard item in computer role playing games, usually as a healing item. The availability of healing potions in the popular Final Fantasy series of games eventually resulted in the release of an actual beverage named "Potion" in Japan by Square Enix, the games' creators.

How To Practice Witchcraft Spells

How To Practice Witchcraft Spells Cover When one thinks of witchcraft and spells, the tendency is to imagine a haggard woman of the wood reciting an incantation to hex her neighbor. This is unfortunate and completely inaccurate. To practice true Witchcraft Spells means to accept personal responsibility for one's actions and their consequences. So, before you fire up your cauldron, learn how to properly practice witchcraft spells.

How to Practice Witchcraft Spells Instructions

Things You'll Need:

* Spell supplies and materials, as appropriate

Step 1. Decide on the spell you wish to perform. This will depend on your goal or intent, whether it be to increase financial abundance, find a new job or promote good health.

Step 2. Practice responsible ethics. Accept that we cannot always change what is meant to be, nor should we try to. Likewise, life is full of lessons that are intended to be learned from. So, examine your motives carefully before resorting to using a spell to bring about change through witchcraft.

Step 3. Follow the Witch's Pyramid when performing any spell. This is a set of four pillars (or principles) that are integral to success. They are: To Know (understand the mechanism of the spell and its effects), To Will (the ability to focus on your intent), To Dare (to believe that you are worthy of receiving this blessing) and To Keep Silent (don't negate the positive flow of energy set in motion by talking or bragging about your spell).

Step 4. Prepare the area for spellwork by walking in a circle three times deosil (clockwise) while cleansing the space once with sprinkled salt, again with blessed water and the final time with the smudging of incense, such as frankincense or myrrh.

Step 5. Consecrate any tools you intend to use when casting spells, such as a wand, pendulum or an athame (a special knife used for ritual, not cutting). To do this, set up a lit candle, burning incense, a bowl of blessed water and a bowl of salt to represent the four elements. Then pass the object over the candle flame (Fire), through the incense smoke (Air), sprinkle it with the water (Water) and then the salt (Earth). Finally, recite the following: Elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth, to this tool of the magick now give birth. Blessed and consecrated in this hour, be thou (name object) of strength and power.

Tips & Warnings

* Do not perform any spell that affects another person unless you have that person's explicit permission to do so.
* Abide the Witch's Rede, which states, "An' it harm none, do as ye will."

How To Perform Protection Spells

How To Perform Protection Spells Cover We all feel vulnerable at times. A protection spell can empower you. Whether it is the negative energies of others or fear for your property, you are not helpless. You can build a field of energy that will keep destructive forces away. Read on to learn how to perform protection spells.

Instructions

1.Identify your fears. The kind of protection you need will influence the spell you perform. Mentally destructive forces need to be handled differently from physical threats.

2.Describe the ownership history of your home, if that's what you want to protect. Pay attention to the feelings you get when you write about previous owners. The energies they have left behind could be what's making you feel uncomfortable.

3.Meditate on the person who is causing you grief if you are performing the spell for protection against someone. Write a letter addressing that person and explaining why you feel vulnerable.

4.Buy a black and white candle. Light it in a place in your home where you feel safe. Imagine a thick field of white energy surrounding you. Call up that protective field of energy when you feel threatened.

5.Pour hot water over a 1 tsp. of basil. Let it sit for half an hour. Run a warm bath and add the basil water. Relax and envision yourself moving through life confident and brave.

6.Eat more protein like chicken, beans, cheese and tofu when feeling vulnerable to help ground you. Spicy dishes with garlic, onions, black pepper and cayenne keep negative energies away. Eat while visualizing that you are protected from threatening forces.

7.Perform a simple protection spell for your home by burning sage in a censer. Walk through every room in your house, including the attic, basement and garage, chanting words that empower you.

Tips & Warnings

* When using incantations, say positive words that empower you rather than negative words against someone or something.

This is simple magic protection spell for the protection of a room, household or other physical location against negative energies or bad spirits.

How to cast it:

1.Cast a Witch's Circle. If you use a besom for this, sweep the entire area that you wish to protect.

2.Asperse (sprinkle with purified water) the area that you are protecting. Pay special attention to any doors, windows or corners.

3.Cast the sea salt around the edges of the area. You need not be heavy-handed, just a few salt crystals per foot is quite sufficient.

4.Light the incense and allow it to burn for a few moments before continuing. Many denominations of witchcraft begin chanting or prayers at this point.

5.Use the fan or feather to cense (direct smoke towards) the entire area. Work clockwise (doesil) and wave the fan through the smoke to send it outwards. As with the water, pay special attention to doors, windows and corners. Finish your chants and invoke any deities or energies whose blessing you desire upon the protected area. Finish with your normal ritual and close the circle.

How To Cast Spells For Good Luck

How To Cast Spells For Good Luck Cover Luck or fortuity is a belief in good or bad fortune in life caused by accident or chance which happens beyond a person's control.

Whether you're down on your luck, want a specific event to go well, or just wish to keep your life running smoothly, a spell can help bring good things your way. Also, If you are new to spellcasting, a good luck spell is a great place to start. It will surround you with positive energy, and help you maintain a great attitude that will help you out in your everyday living.

Step 1. Write the Spell

This should be done by hand, so that your personal energy is used. Write down what it is you want. Request that good things happen in your life, and that positivity surround you. If you have a specific thing in mind, such as a court date, a test, or a competition, ask that the best things happen to you on the occasion. Respectfully call upon the planet Jupiter to aid you in achieving your goal.

When you are done, add "This spell is for the good of all, may it harm none." Then write, "As my will, so mote it be."

Step 2. Get Proper Materials

Your spell will be helped by

* A white candle
* A good luck anointing oil (try a metaphysical store near you, or the internet)
* Allspice incense, or other good luck incense
* Tourmaline, soil or sand
* A chalice or wine glass, with water inside
* Anything that symbolizes luck to you

Step 3. Cast the Spell

1. Do it on a Thursday, in the hour of Jupiter (look at an online planetary hour calculator)
2. Find a quiet spot, preferably outdoors, with a stable surface
3. Set up your materials
4. Focusing your energy on what you wish to attain, rub your candle with the oil
5. Light the candle and the incense
6. Read your spell three times, channeling your energy and visualizing good luck happening to you
7. Place the spell under the candle until it burns all the way down

Step 4. Maintain a Positive Mindset

Because the success of your spell is highly contingent on your own confidence in your abilities, it is important to keep up a positive state of mind. Doing this will make your good luck spell far more effective.

How To Write Your Own Spells

How To Write Your Own Spells Cover While there’s absolutely nothing wrong with using other peoples’ spells -- and in fact there is an entire industry devoted to publishing books full of them -- there are times when you may wish to use your own. It may be that you can’t find what you’re looking for in a book, or you might just feel a need to use original material. Whatever your reasons, it’s not as hard as you may think to write your own spells if you follow this very simple formula.

Here's How:

1.Figure out the goal or intent of the working. What is it you wish to accomplish? Are you looking for prosperity? Hoping to get a better job? Trying to bring love into your life? What is the specific aim of the spell? Whatever it may be, make sure you're clear on what it is you want -- "I will get that promotion at work!"

2.Determine what material components you’ll need to achieve the goal. Will the working require herbs, candles, stones? Try to think outside the box when you’re composing a spell -- remember that magic relies heavily on symbolism. There’s nothing wrong with using unusual ingredients in a working -- Hot Wheels cars, chess pieces, bits of hardware, sunglasses and even old DVDs are all fair game.

3.Decide if timing is important. In some traditions, moon phase is crucial, while in others it’s not significant. Generally, positive magic, or workings that draw things to you, is performed during the waxing moon. Negative or destructive magic is done during the waning phase. It may be that you feel a certain day of the week is best for the working, or even a certain hour of the day. Don’t feel obligated to drown yourself in the details, though. If you’re a person who feels confident doing magic on the fly without worrying about timing, then go for it.

* Days of the Week

4.Figure out what wording or incantation -- if any -- will be verbalized during the working. Are you going to chant something formal and powerful, calling upon the gods for assistance? Will you simply mutter a poetic couplet under your breath? Or is it the sort of working where you can simply ponder the Universe in silence?

5.Put all of the above together into a workable form, and then, in the immortal words of the Nike commercial, Just Do It.

Tips:

1.Despite this being a very bare-bones and simple way of looking at spell construction, it does work effectively. You may wish to keep a magical journal or make notes in your book of shadows during the spell construction phase, and then keep track of results as they begin to manifest.

2.If a working hasn't begun to manifest within a few weeks -- some traditions say within 28 days, a lunar month -- you may want to stop and revisit the working. Figure out what variables may need to be changed.

3.The Universe has a quirky sense of humor, so make sure anything you cast a spell for is worded correctly. In other words, be careful what you wish for, because you just might get it!

4.Remember that magic is a tool and a skill set, but some common sense should prevail as well. You can cast all day to get yourself a job, but your chances of success are greatly reduced if you haven't pounded the pavement and sent out copies of your resume!

What You Need:

* Intent
* Supplies
* Your Book of Shadows, if you use one

Gay Love Spells

Gay Love Spells Cover Gay Love Spells are very powerful, cast Gay Love Spells or casting gay love spells under my guidance as gay spells are like magic spells to attract love of the same sex.

Gay Love Spells are spiritually prepared and have done wonders in the past.
If you love some one of the same sex then my Gay love spell will help you to achieve your goals.

Obtain a photo of the victim-to-be. If no photo is available, get some hair or finger-nail clippings. Get anything that fits into whatever model of magick you hold
and combine this with a sigil (a pictorial glyph) of the guy of your own design.
Sit in a still clean place (Your Temple) and declare the circle to be cast, through a banishing ritual or reciting a poem and waving your arms around, etc. Put the likeness of
the guy onto your altar (or similar) and channel energy up through your legs, torso, arms and into the likeness. Keep doing so as you pick the object up (both hands) and hold it
tight, (because you love his impression). Tell him over and over that you love him absolutely and that he loves you dearly. Tell him that he loves you and that you love him
and that you were meant to be together, repeatedly. When satisfied, close the circle and declare the ritual over.

Take the object and wrap it up, to 'bind it' and store it in a clean, safe place such as strapped to the bottom of her bed or buried in her lawn, etc. Usually I would have some
purple candles on the altar. You specified 'white magic' so use white candles.

Picture also plays a very important role on Gay Love Spells.
You may take a picture of the person you love or you are interested in.
After you have the picture, behind the picture you may write your name and birth date.

The dip the picture in a solution of balchad and keep it for 15 days, after 15 days are over you may put the picture in the sea and while throwing the picture in the see chant these prays
Nau Sau Ser Bil Uma Rah Rab 21 time
You will experience great wonders soon.

If you have any questions about the above written spells email me and all your queries will be answered.

Ethics Of Love Magic Is It Ok To Perform Love Spells

Ethics Of Love Magic Is It Ok To Perform Love Spells Cover Love spells. They're one of the things that often draws new folks to Wicca and pagan religions. However, there's a lot of question within the Pagan community about the ethics of casting a love spell on someone else. After all, if you're performing magic on someone without their knowledge, aren't you messing with their free will?

Most wiccans will tell you that the best way to approach Love Magic is to avoid focusing on a specific individual as a target. Instead, use your energy and skills to focus on yourself -- to draw love your way, or to help you present yourself as a person worthy of love. You could use your magical abilities to feel more confident and attractive, much like a magical makeover. In other words, fix yourself, not someone else.

Bear in mind that many Pagan traditions have no restrictions on the use of magic to change someone else. If you're part of such a tradition, the use of love magic may well be within the boundaries of your ethical guidelines. In some traditions of folk magic, love magic is perfectly acceptable. It's something that's done as a matter of course, and is no more unethical than wearing a sexy perfume or a cute push-up bra. Magic is viewed as a tool, and can be used in tandem with the mundane to bring you what you want -- after all, if you didn’t want to change things, you wouldn't be doing magic in the first place, right?

Before casting any sort of working that affects another person, though, be sure to think about consequences. How will your actions affect not only you, but other people? Will it ultimately cause harm? Will it cause someone to be hurt, either directly or indirectly? These are all things that should be evaluated before performing any working at all, whether it's a love spell or some other type of magic. If your tradition or belief system prohibits you from performing magic on someone without their consent or knowledge, then you'd be better of skipping the love magic, and focusing instead on self-improvement and self-empowerment.

Rather than aiming a love spell at someone and expecting them to become your devoted servant and doormat, consider looking at Love Spells as a method of (a) getting someone to notice you AND (b) getting the person to, once they've noticed you, find all the things about you that they like. If you maintain this perspective, you should be able to work love magic and still keep within your ethical boundaries.

Cast Spells

Cast Spells Cover Casting spells is not difficult. You just need to know what it is that you want to change and harvest the energy of the universe to help you. You don't need to pay a psychic, a medium or a shaman to cast a spell. Love spells, protection spells, prosperity spells and other spells can be created by you, free of charge. When you cast spells yourself, they are more likely to work, because your personal energy is what makes the magic start. Follow these steps to casting a spell that will change your life for the better.

Instructions How To Cast Spells:

1.CREATE A SAFE BUBBLE FOR YOURSELF. The easiest way is to light a candle and stay within its glow. If you are casting a spell for someone who is with you, they should stay within the glow of the candle light as well. This helps the good energy to surround you and keep the bad energy away from you.
It is good to Cast Spells at night so that you can see the protective circle of light. For best results, cast your spell at the full moon. The energy pull of the earth is greatest at the full moon and since you are trying to change the energy forces by casting a spell, you want them to be at full magnitude.

2.CAREFULLY CHOOSE THE GOAL OF YOUR SPELL. Casting a spell is a way of initiating change. It is not difficult to cast a spell, but you have to be sincere. Before you begin to cast a spell, decide what it is that you want to change. Is it a relationship? Do you want to change how someone feels about you? How about your financial situation? Do you want more money? Maybe you want to lose weight. Before you begin a spell, think about what it is that you want to change and what is holding you back. If you are casting a spell for yourself, close your eyes, hold your hands outstretched in front of you, palms facing upwards and slowly say the following 3 times:
Energy of the universe
Feel my energy.
Energy of the universe
Touch my energy.
Energy of the universe
Join with my energy to ______________.
Fill in the blank with what it is that you want to accomplish. For example: Do you want to make someone fall in love with you? Then say "Join with my energy to make John fall in love with me." Do you want to cast a spell that will help you lose weight? Say, "Join with my energy to help me lose 10 pounds."

3.HOLD HANDS OR A PERSONAL ITEM IF CASTING A SPELL FOR SOMEONE ELSE. If you are doing the spell for someone else, hold their hand and both of you should close your eyes and raise your palms to the sky. If the person for whom you are doing the spell can't be there, you should hold something of theirs in your hands so their energy is present. You can have a ring, a piece of hair, a glass they drank out of, a hairbrush, piece of clothing, etc. It really doesn't matter what you use as long as that person had contact with it. Then say:
"Energy of the universe
Feel my energy.
Energy of the universe
Touch my energy.
Energy of the universe
Join with my energy and __________'s energy to ______________."
Fill in the first blank with the name of the person for whom you are doing the spell and fill in the second blank with the reason for the spell. For example, do you want to help your friend get good grades? Then say "Join with my energy and Carl's energy to help him get an A from his math teacher."

4.WRITE DOWN WHAT IS STOPPING YOU FROM REACHING YOUR GOAL. After you say the spell verses above three times, write on a small piece of paper (about the size of a post it note) what is holding you back from your goal. If you want someone to fall in love with you, write down what is stopping that from happening. If you want more money, write down what is keeping money from you.

If you are casting a spell for someone else, ask them to think about what is stopping them from accomplishing their goal. For example: Sara asks you to cast a love spell on John because she wants him to fall in love with her. The barrier to that might be: John is in love with Joan. Write "Joan is keeping John from falling in love with Sara" on the paper.

5.BURN THE PAPER TO SEND OFF YOUR SPELL. Once you are finished writing the barrier to the goal, fold the paper in half, then in half again. Using the flame from your lit candle, set the paper on fire and drop it in a dish or container that will not burn. Let the paper burn completely on its own. Do not blow it out. While it is burning say:

"Move beyond my sphere of influence and remove the barriers to my wishes.
Move beyond the forces of this world and dissolve the boundaries that limit my will.
Move beyond the edges of reason and go to the limits of the universe where all things are possible and cast my spell."

6.CHECK THE ASHES FOR THE RESULT OF YOUR SPELL. Once the fire has gone out, check to see if the paper has completely turned to ash. If there is any area that is not burned, that means that the spell will not work. Either you or the person for whom you are doing the spell is not sincere, or the universe is saying no to your request at this time. You will have to try again at a later time.

Think of reasons why the spell didn't work. Did you sincerely think about the all barriers to your goal? Are you sure you understand the complete consequences to your request? Maybe the universe is trying to get you to think about something that you have not fully grasped at this time or don't want to think about.

If the paper has blackened completely by the time the fire goes out, that means that the energy forces are now moving in your favor. Focus on your goal in order to keep the positive energy flowing. If you create negative energy before the spell works its magic, you will create barriers to the fulfillment of the spell, and you may have to start over again.

Tips And Warnings

You can cast a black spell on someone, but you must be careful that some of the negative energy doesn't come back to you. When you cast love spells or prosperity spells for others, the good white magic has a chance of spilling over on you, and you may find yourself in love or winning the lottery. The same is true for black spells. The negative energy can spill over on you creating havoc in your life. Think carefully before you create negative energy by casting black spells. They can't be controlled as easily as white spells. Somehow when you send negative energy out into the world, it has a way of finding you, even though you have sent it to someone else. Is the black spell you are thinking of creating, worth the possible trouble it will bring you?

However, just how much truth are there to these ancient tales?

What Is Magic?
The working definition of magic, paraphrased from Aleister Crowley, is the act of affecting the material world around you by exercising nothing more than your own will.

white magic is often used for good purposes, or to help and defend others. Black magic, conversely, is used to harm others, or to achieve results for selfish reasons.

On black magic spell Books
There are ritual journals from many practitioners, famous and obscure, filled with selfish rituals and hurtful curses. Magic, however, like any tool is no more pure than the motives of those who use it.

Salem Witch Trials

Salem Witch Trials Cover

Book: Salem Witch Trials by Kirstie Alley

Salem, Massachusetts. A small town--with no clear governing body--became embroiled in a scandal that forever stands as one of the darkest chapters in American history. For those accused of witchcraft by their neighbors and friends, there was little chance of clearing their names; the mass paranoia that ravaged through the community took the lives of 19 innocent men and women. With an all-star cast of Kirstie Alley, Rebecca De Mornay, Kristin Booth, Shirley MacLaine, Peter Ustinov and Alan Bates, Salem Witch Trials dramatically revisits 1692 colonial America and the haunting legacy it holds.

"Salem Witch Trials" is a compelling 2003 CBS mini-series that featured many familiar and veteran actors and for the most part, stayed true to the historical events that came to be known as the Salem Witch Trials.

The mini-series begins on a rather odd note - it is right in the middle of a trial where the afflicted girls [who are the ones accusing people of witchcraft]go into hysterics and start wailing and screaming, then the accused start transforming into 'demons' [with rather striking make-up and 'flying' special effects]. Thankfully, this only lasts a couple of minutes [the production could have done without it], and viewers are taken back via flashback to six months prior where the events began.

The story focuses on the Puritans residing in the village of Salem, Massachusetts, and the year is 1691. There is no charter from England and hence, the Puritans basically govern themselves without any written law. Those who commit crimes or sins are publicly humiliated [there is a scene where women deemed guilty of sinful conduct are paraded naked whilst tied to a wagon]. The family that is the focal point in this series is the Putnam family - Ann Putnam [Kirstie Alley] gives birth to a stillborn child and is full of grief. Her husband Thomas Putnam [Jay O Sanders] is a bitter man, having lost a lot of his land and wealth to others who are more entrepreneurial. They have a son and daughter and young Annie Putnam [Katie Boland] senses the tension between her parents and finds herself being neglected, hence her desire to act out as a means of gaining attention.

The storyline is riveting and moves along at a steady but sure pace, building momentum as the horror unfolds - the acting is also solid and credible - Kirstie Alley's Ann Putnam is a conflicted and tortured soul. Her grief over her dead child causes her to turn to a village medicine woman, Bridgitte Bishop who is later accused as a witch, and this in turn causes her immense guilt [for turning 'away' from God]. She is by turns horrified and self-righteous at the situation in Salem. This is one of Alley's best dramatic performances to date. Henry Czerny's Rev Parris is credibly done, acting out the part of a so-called man of God who decries against self-interest whilst shamelessly practising it for self-preservation. Then there is young Katie Boland as Annie Putnam who incites revulsion for her performance as the misguided accuser.Rebecca de Mornay plays Rev Parris' wife who is mortified by the events in Salem and finally leaves her husband.

There are also veteran actors who have done an incredible job with their roles here - Shirley Maclaine plays the ill-fated Rebecca Nurse, one of the accused who also happens to be a pillar in society, a devout mother and elderly woman who maintains her faith and sense of humor in the bleakest of times. Peter Ustinov plays the Magistrate William Stoughton, a man so absorbed in proving the accused guilty that he never once questions his judgements. And there is Alan Bates playing Gvernor Sir William Phips, who initially acts the dandy and seems disinterested but who eventually realises something is seriously wrong in Salem.

The sets and costumes lend an authentic feel to the story, making the Salem of 1691-'92 come alive onscreen. All in all, this is a first-class production and will appeal to history buffs, educators [though with some nudity I'm not sure if it would be appropriate for classroom viewing] and period & historical drama fans.Highly recommended!
